The Harmattan Season is already here with you. According to Wikipedia, Harmattan Season starts around ending of November and terminates around mid March.
Harmattan is characterised by cold dry breeze usually from North-East Sahara desert. It is a season of dryness of the skin. This skin dryness as a result of Harmattan affects mostly women and children.
As a woman, it becomes very worrisome when your skin becomes dry and greyish. It's shameful sometimes. How do you then overcome the challenges of dryness of the skin and grey colour that accompanies it?

Drink Lots of Water
To keep your skin moist and nourished, you need to stay hydrated. Harmattan Season is a dry season, without adequate water intake, your body with be dehydrated and it will affect your skin also as it will also be dry as a result of dehydration. Always keep a bottle of water handle. It's is very important during Harmattan Season and also, water is very essential for good living. The first rule of having a moist and good looking skin is, frequent water intake.
Do Not Bath With Hot/Warm Water
Bathing with hot water will cause drying of the skin during Harmattan Season. Hot water breaks the pores of your skins and cause rapid water loss through the skin. It is best to always bath with cold water during this season so that your skin can stay hydrated. This does not only apply when taking your bath, even while washing your face or any part of your skin, always use cold water during Harmattan Season.
Make Use Water/Aqua-Base Lotion
After taking your bath or washing any part of your skin, apply lotion. Lotion keep your skin hydrated for a long period of time.
While choosing the Lotion to use, always reach out for Water-base or Aqua-base lotions. These are lotions that are made up with water, they keep your skin hydrated. Examples are Nivea, Vaseline, etc.
Do not use alcohol-base lotion. The alcohol evaporates easily leaving your skin dry and greyish.
Use Lip Balm
During Harmattan Season, lip breakage is usually common among women. To keep your lip fresh and moist, make use of good quality and natural hydrated lips balm such as those with castor oil, virgin olive oil, Shea butter, bee wax, etc. Do not use any lip balm made with petroleum oils and minerals as they are rich in alcohol.
Do Not Use Harsh Soap
Harmattan Season is not a season of using highly medicated soaps. Such soaps are very harsh to the body. And, the negative effects they have on the skin are usually worse during Harmattan Season. Make use of toilet soap, they are your best friend during this season, as they are natural and do not cause skin dryness or rupture.
Exfoliation - Removing Dead Skin
Removing dead skins from your face, skin, body and foot. These dead skins tends to peel off on their own. They usually prevent effective penetration of hydrated lotion into your skin and cause your skin to look rough and peeling.
Use soft sponge to remove the dead skins and don't scrub too harsh as to rupture or injure your skin. Apply natural oil such as castor oil, virgin olive oil after exfoliation.
Face Wipe (Towelettes)
When going around, always carry face Wipe in your hand bag. The wipe must be alcohol-free for effective results. Some Towelettes are usually fortified with vitamin E to give extra protection to your skin and they are also effective in removing makeups.
